Yamuna flood in Delhi: Yamuna river is the identity of Delhi. Its calm waves give peace, but when it overflows, it destroys everything. These days Yamuna has assumed a terrifying form. The water level of the river has reached 206.93 meters, which is above the danger mark. The areas settled around Yamuna in the National Capital Region (NCR) are flooded, due to which life has become completely disrupted.
Horrific scene in settlements
On Wednesday, the scene of the colonies settled on the banks of Yamuna in Delhi - Mayur Vihar, Jaitpur Pushta, Shyam Ghat and Yamuna Bazaar - was very frightening. Mangaroli, Yakutpur and Jhatt villages of Noida were also not untouched by this. Muddy flood water was spread all around, in which cots and household items were floating. People were passing through knee-deep water, while in many houses the water had reached below the beds. People were running towards safe places carrying essential items on their heads.
Farmers' ruin
The flood has had the most profound effect on farmers. In flood-affected areas like Madanpur Khadar, crops have been completely ruined. Sharing his pain, farmer Ramshankar said, "My uncle worked day and night to grow crops, but everything was washed away in the water." He said that the water level is rising every hour, due to which his fields have been completely submerged.
Similarly, another farmer Vikas said that his livelihood is completely dependent on farming, but more than half of the fields have been submerged in water. The flood has engulfed not only crops and fields, but also people's homes. Many families have been forced to leave their homes and move to safer places.
Submergence of huts
A resident of Madanpur Khadar said that along with the fields, their huts have also been submerged in water. He complained that the police are asking them to move from there, but no alternative arrangement has been made for them to live. Due to overnight rains in the areas across the Yamuna, houses were flooded, due to which furniture got wet and people suffered heavy losses.
Waterlogging in residential areas
Monstery market near ISBT and nearby residential areas are also flooded. Ladakh Buddha Vihar temple of the monastery has also been submerged. Yamuna market is flooded with water up to 10 feet, while other areas like Nigam Bodh Ghat have also been affected.
Administration's efforts
The administration has started taking steps in view of the seriousness of the situation. According to officials, the situation has worsened due to the release of water from Hathinikund barrage and other barrages in Haryana. Announcements are being made through boats, in which people living on the banks of the river are being urged to move to safer places.
