The bail application of Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad who was arrested on Saturday has been dismissed by the Tis Hazari Court. He has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier on Saturday, Azad had moved Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court. The Delhi Police had sought 14-days judicial custody for him. Azad was earlier denied permission for a protest march from Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid to Jantar Mantar.

Chandrashekhar Azad was arrested by the Delhi Police after being detained from outside the Jama Masjid earlier in the day.

Chandrashekhar Azad had given the police the slip on Friday after leading a massive protest against the citizenship law at Jama Masjid in the Old Delhi area.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the march and stopped a section of the crowd at Delhi Gate.

Thousands of students, activists and opposition leaders had hit the streets in the national capital, defying heavy security clampdown and prohibitory orders even as authorities suspended mobile internet services and restricted traffic movement to quell the swirling agitation.

Heavy security was deployed in areas around the Jama Masjid in view of the protest call and all the exit and entry lanes leading to Jama Masjid were barricaded in Old Delhi.
