Education / Delhi to have its own school education board: CM Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that Delhi will have its own school education board.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meet in the capital.

While announcing his decision, Kejriwal said that the new arrangement will bring revolutionary changes in Delhi's current education system, and will make it reach new heights as well.

"There are around 1000 govt schools and 1700 private schools in Delhi. All government schools and most private schools here are affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Their CBSE affiliation will be scrapped & they'll be affiliated to Delhi Board of School Education," Kejriwal was quoted as saying.

In the beginning, 21-22 state government schools will be affiliated to the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) and in the next four-five years all the schools will be brought under it, Kejriwal said in a press conference.

Delhi CM further added that "Schools will be selected after discussion with principals, teachers & parents. We hope that all schools will voluntarily get affiliated to this Board within 4-5 years."

The board will aim at imparting such education that prepares "fiercely patriotic" and self-dependent students who serve the society and the country in a selfless manner, he said.

The new educational board will have a governing body, chaired by the education minister. It'll also have an executive body for day- to-day functioning, which will be headed by a CEO.

Both these sub-bodies will comprise of experts from industry and education sector, principals of government & private schools, as well as bureaucrats.
