Trump Tariff War / Donald Trump again gave a statement on tariff, said- 'Not trying to take advantage'

Former US President Donald Trump has said that the US is not trying to force negotiations on tariff rates, but wants fairness. He advocated reciprocal tariffs with the announcement of 25% tariff on India. Trump also claimed that billions of dollars would come into the US economy.

Trump Tariff War: Former US President Donald Trump has recently clarified his views on trade policies and tariffs. While talking to reporters in Pennsylvania on Sunday night, he said that the US is not trying to put pressure on other countries in trade talks, but their goal is to ensure "fairness". Trump advocated "reciprocal tariffs" and claimed that his tariff policy would bring "hundreds of billions of dollars" to the US economy. Along with this, he also accused his predecessor Joe Biden of mismanagement.

India-US trade talks

Trump's remarks come at a time when trade talks are going on between many countries, including the US and India. Trump has announced a 25 percent tariff on India, while taking a soft stand towards Russia, saying that both countries have "dead economies". The sixth round of talks is likely to begin in August, when the US delegation visits India.

According to media reports, India and the US are working towards a mutually beneficial trade deal. Some analysts believe the announcement of a 25 per cent tariff may have been a bargaining tactic. Trump also acknowledged that it may not be "possible" for some countries to impose equal reciprocal tariff rates.

Trump's View

Trump believes that developing economies, such as India, impose high duties on imports from developed countries such as the US to protect local markets. In contrast, they have to pay lower duties to sell their products in developed countries. Trump wants to change this imbalance as he believes that US manufacturers should not lose out to foreign goods manufactured at lower costs in countries such as China.

Relations with India

Trump, in a recent interview with Breitbart News, spoke of having a "very good relationship" with India. However, he also mentioned that India is one of the countries with the highest tariffs in the world. He expressed optimism that India is going to "cut down" the tariffs "substantially". This statement is important in the context of India-US trade talks, as both countries are working towards a balanced and beneficial agreement.
