Delhi Liquor Scam: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is investigating money laundering in the Delhi liquor scam case, has once again sent a notice to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. ED has asked Kejriwal to appear before the investigating officer on December 21. Earlier on November 2 also, ED had sent a notice to Kejriwal and called him for questioning, but he did not appear before the investigating officer.

Many big leaders of Aam Aadmi Party are behind bars in the liquor scam case. Among these leaders, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia as well as the party's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh are also currently in judicial custody. These two leaders have not been able to get relief even from the court. More than 22 arrests have been made in this case so far while 3 accused have turned government witnesses.

Liquor scam was exposed in Delhi last year i.e. in the month of July 2022. This scam in Delhi's new excise policy came to light when Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar submitted his investigation report to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. After the Chief Secretary's report, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI investigation into the matter. As soon as the investigation started, layers of the scam started unraveling.

There may be some more arrests

Along with CBI, ED also entered the investigation and started investigating money laundering. It is believed that ED may also make some more arrests in this case. However, it remains to be seen whether Arvind Kejriwal appears before the investigating agency after the ED sends the notice again.

Aam Aadmi Party attacks BJP

AAP MP Sandeep Pathak has attacked BJP after ED sent notice to Arvind Kejriwal. He said that BJP is afraid of Arvind Kejriwal. This case is completely fake. There is nothing in this case. When someone questions PM Modi, he gets him arrested. That is why they fear Arvind Kejriwal the most. If someone surrenders before them then they give him a clean chit. He said that Kejriwal will also attend the meeting of India Alliance on Tuesday.

What is liquor scam?

Actually, the Kejriwal government of Delhi had implemented a new liquor policy in the state in the month of November 2021. Under the policy, Delhi was divided into 32 zones. According to the rules, 27 liquor shops were to be opened in each zone. Along with this, the government had privatized all the liquor shops as per its policy.

The Kejriwal government's reasoning behind this was that Delhi would benefit approximately Rs 3500 crore by privatizing the shops, but the government's move backfired when despite the increase in liquor sales, there was a loss in revenue. After this, questions started being raised on the policy and gradually it came under scrutiny.
