Due to the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, people have come out on the streets and are demonstrating against the government. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has declared a public emergency by issuing a gazette on Friday in view of the violent protests.

According to local media, in view of the prevailing situation in the country, public safety and law and order, and keeping in mind the maintenance of essential supplies and services for the life of the community, the state of emergency has been imposed. The President has imposed emergency by issuing a gazette.

In addition, a six-hour police curfew has been imposed in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. A police spokesman said that the police curfew in the Western Province will be in effect from midnight of April 2 (today) till 6 am. Earlier on Thursday, many protesters gathered outside the residence of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and demonstrated fiercely.

Meanwhile, protesters clashed with police outside President Rajapaksa's residence in Mirihana. At least 50 people, including journalists, were injured in the violent demonstration. Let us tell you that Sri Lanka is also facing an unprecedented economic crisis at this time.

Demonstrations outside Sri Lankan presidential residence terrorist activity: Government

The Sri Lankan government has termed the violent demonstration outside the residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a terrorist activity. However, after the protests, the overnight curfew in Colombo was lifted on Friday morning. Due to the poor economic condition of Sri Lanka, people have started protesting against the President. The Sri Lankan government blamed the extremist elements associated with the opposition for this demonstration. Many extremists are among those arrested.
