The Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate has successfully neutralized the prime suspect in the sensational Surya Chauhan murder case during a fierce encounter. The accused, identified as Asad, was the main perpetrator behind the brutal killing of Surya Chauhan in the Khoda police station area. Asad had been evading arrest since the day of the crime, prompting the police department to announce a cash reward of 50,000 rupees for any information leading to his capture. The encounter took place in the Vasundhara area, where the police team intercepted the suspect following a specific tip-off regarding his movements.
The Brutal Murder on Bakrid
The roots of this encounter trace back to May 28, 2026, the day of Bakrid. In the Navneet Vihar locality of the Khoda area, Asad launched a vicious and sudden attack on Surya Chauhan. According to the investigation, the accused used a knife to repeatedly stab Surya, inflicting multiple life-threatening injuries. The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Surya Chauhan succumbed to his injuries during treatment, turning the assault into a high-profile murder investigation that shook the entire district.
Public Outrage and Police Action
The murder of Surya Chauhan sparked massive outrage across the Khoda region and beyond. Family members of the deceased, supported by various Hindu organizations, took to the streets to demand justice. The protesters organized intense demonstrations, calling for the immediate arrest of all those involved and demanding strict action, including an encounter of the main accused. In response to the growing public pressure and the gravity of the crime, the police registered a formal case based on the complaint filed by the victim's family. A total of 5 individuals were named as accused in the First Information Report (FIR). Prior to the encounter of Asad, the police had already managed to arrest 3 other suspects involved in the conspiracy and execution of the crime.
The Encounter Operation in Vasundhara
Dhaval Jaiswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for City, Trans-Hindon, and Headquarters, provided detailed insights into the operation. He stated that the main accused, Asad, had been constantly changing his locations to dodge the police teams, while however, the police received specific intelligence that Asad was planning to flee the city. The information suggested that he was coming to the Khoda area to collect money from some of his associates before making his escape. Acting on this lead, multiple police teams were deployed to cordon off the area and conduct intensive combing operations.
During the surveillance in the Vasundhara area, police spotted Asad riding a motorcycle with another individual, while when the police team signaled them to stop and ordered Asad to surrender, the accused chose to resist. Instead of complying, Asad opened direct fire on the police personnel. In the ensuing exchange of fire, a police constable sustained injuries and was later moved to a hospital for medical care, while the police returned fire in self-defense, during which Asad was hit by bullets and fell to the ground.
Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
Following the shootout, the injured accused was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, while while Asad was neutralized, his accomplice managed to take advantage of the chaos and fled the scene. Currently, a massive search operation is underway to track down the absconding partner. The police are also thoroughly investigating Asad's past criminal record to uncover any further links to organized crime or previous offenses in the Ghaziabad and NCR region.
