Panaji: Government of Goa denied that lack of oxygen in GMCH resulted in death of patients. The government said that both lack of oxygen and death cannot be linked. Along with this, state CM Pramod Sawant announced that treatment of corona will be provided free of cost in all private hospitals of Goa.

The Goa government has decided to take over the right to recruit patients from all 21 private hospitals in the state treating corona virus infections from May 17. The government has taken this step in view of the violation of various rules. Chief Minister Pramod Samwat said that this step will reduce the burden on hospitals like Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Significantly, in the last four days, 75 infected persons undergoing treatment at GMCH died, which has sounded a warning bell for the administration. Citing the reason for the state government's decision, Sawant said that private hospitals were not reserving 50 per cent of their total beds available for Kovid-19 patients.

The Chief Minister said, "Many incidents occurred before us when private hospitals did not provide treatment to Kovid-19 patients under the DDSSY scheme (Medical Insurance Scheme of the state government)." Patients were found to charge more fees. He said that the government will only take the right to recruit patients from these hospitals while their management remains with them.
