Indian Railway / Good news for train passengers, Railways imposed 25% limit on waiting list

Indian Railways has limited the number of waiting tickets to 25% of the total capacity of the train. This decision has been taken to provide better passenger experience and reduce overbooking. The new system will be applicable on all major trains, which will reduce crowding and increase the chances of ticket confirmation.

Indian Railway: Indian Railways has taken an important step to give better travel experience to passengers and reduce unnecessary crowd in trains. The Railway Ministry has announced that now the number of waiting tickets in any train will be limited to a maximum of 25 percent of the total seat capacity of that train. This decision is being considered an important change towards increasing the convenience of passengers, transparency and chances of ticket confirmation.

Waiting ticket quota will be decided according to class

Under the new system, waiting tickets will not be issued for more than 25% of the total berths / seats in all classes - like AC First Class, AC Second, AC Third, Sleeper and Chair Car. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the seats reserved for Divyangjan, senior citizens and women.

Railway officials say that on an average 20-25% of waiting tickets get confirmed by the time the chart is prepared. In such a situation, this new limit will give more clarity to the passengers in knowing the status of their tickets and will avoid unnecessary confusion.

The problem of overcrowding and overbooking will be curbed

It has been seen many times till now that despite having waiting tickets, passengers used to board reserved coaches, which increased crowding and chaos. According to the railways, this new policy will curb such problems. If a train has 1,000 seats, now only a maximum of 250 waiting tickets will be issued. This will keep the number of passengers boarding the train more accurate and controlled.

The new policy will be applicable to all major trains

This rule will be applicable to all major trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Mail/Express and Superfast. After the circular issued by the Railway Board, various zonal railways have started implementing it.

What was in the old system?

According to the circular of January 2013, earlier up to 30 waiting tickets could be issued in AC First Class, 100 in AC Second, 300 in AC Third and 400 in Sleeper Class. Due to this, many passengers were hopeful and worried about confirmation till the last moment. At the same time, passengers boarding without confirmed tickets also increased chaos in the coaches.

Passengers will get benefit

With this new initiative of Railways, travel will be more comfortable and organized than before. While the limited number of waiting tickets will increase the chances of passengers getting confirmed tickets, unwanted crowd in trains will also decrease. This change is another strong step towards digital and customer-centric reforms of Railways.
