Government Clarifies PM Modi Had No Prior Knowledge Of Iran Attack

The Indian government informed the Rajya Sabha that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had no prior information regarding the attack on Iran during his recent visit to Israel. Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh clarified that discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, not regional military strikes.

The Government of India has clarified in a written response to the Rajya Sabha that there was no discussion regarding the attack on Iran during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Israel. According to the government, no information about the strike was shared with the Prime Minister. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh provided this information in a written reply to an unstarred question. The query was raised by IUML MP Abdul Wahab.

Official Response in Rajya Sabha

MP Abdul Wahab had inquired whether the government was aware of the military attack on Iran that occurred shortly after the Prime Minister's visit. In response, Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh stated that the Prime Minister had no prior knowledge of the event. Singh informed the house that PM Modi undertook a state visit to Israel on 25 and 26 February 2026, following an invitation from the Israeli Prime Minister. The government emphasized that no subjects related to regional attacks were discussed during the meetings.

Focus Areas of the Israel Visit

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties through strategic partnerships. During the trip, several agreements were signed in sectors including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cyber security, agriculture, education, and digital payments. The government reiterated that the discussions were strictly confined to developmental and technological cooperation between the two nations, refuting claims of any military-related briefings.

Diplomatic Engagement in West Asia

The government stated that India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia. Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh noted that since the escalation of tensions in the region, Prime Minister Modi has been actively engaging with various global leaders, while the Prime Minister has held discussions with leaders from Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, UAE, Jordan, and the United States. Simultaneously, the External Affairs Minister has remained in constant contact with his international counterparts.

Repatriation and Maritime Security Measures

In light of the regional conflict, the Indian government has prioritized the safety of its citizens abroad. 75 lakh Indians so far. Also, to maintain a steady energy supply, specific arrangements have been made for the safe passage of Indian vessels in the Gulf region. The government’s statement aims to address speculations regarding the timing of the Prime Minister's visit and the regional military developments.
