Budget 2024: The government has given good news to mobile users before the budget. Modi government has reduced the import duty on main components used in mobiles. Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has reduced the custom duty on many parts used in mobile phones. Reduction in custom duty will reduce the cost of manufacturing mobile phones, which can benefit the end user i.e. the general public.

The Central Government has reduced the import duty on mobile phone components from 15 percent to 10 percent. Union Minister for IT and Electronics Ashwini Vaishnav said, “Reducing customs duty brings much-needed certainty and clarity to the industry and customs procedures. I thank the Honorable Prime Minister and Finance Minister for this step towards strengthening the mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem. I thank the minister."

Custom duty on components used in the manufacturing of mobile phones is divided into three categories. Import duty or other charges on some components have been reduced from 15 percent to 10 percent. Apart from this, the custom duty on components which were earlier kept in “other” category has also been reduced from 15 percent to 10 percent. At the same time, custom duty on some components has been abolished.

• Other mechanical items made of plastic and metal

Due to reduction in budget custom duty by the government, mobile manufacturing companies will now have to pay less import duty than before. Its benefit can also be given to common users. However, reducing the price of the phone completely depends on the company making it.
