The use of generic drugs will be encouraged in the capital. For this, the Delhi government has taken steps to increase the availability and use of these medicines. The government has asked all chemists to put up a board outside their shop, in which it will be written about the availability of generic medicines.

An order in this regard has been issued by the Drugs Control Unit of Delhi Government. The order said that in the meeting held on March 15, 2022, a decision has been taken to promote the use of generic drugs.

A generic drug is one that is already in the market, it is made similar to the brand-name drug that is already sold in the market. These drugs are similar in potency, dosage form, safety, performance, quality and other characteristics.

For example, Paracetamol is the generic name of a drug, while Crocin is its brand name. According to the Union Health Ministry, India is a major producer of generic drugs. Generic medicines made here are exported to 150 countries, which are cheaper than generic medicines.
