Central Government / Government's digital strike, 19 websites including 18 OTT apps banned

Central Government: Social media and OTT is a platform which is present in every household. Nowadays, through websites and apps, you can watch whatever you want while sitting at home. But there is no dearth of people who misuse them. There are many websites, OTT platforms and apps which deliver obscene content to the people. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken a big step on this matter. Taking action, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has banned 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites and 10 apps.

Not only this, 57 social media handles have also been blocked. According to the Government of India, all these sites and OTT platforms have violated the IT Act. Apart from this, these online platforms were also violating the Indian Penal Code. The government also believes that for the last several years these OTT platforms and websites were showing content that tarnishes the image of women. Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has made this announcement on 12 March 2024.

Let us tell you that among the handles that have been blocked and banned, some had 1 crore users and some had 15 lakh users. This important decision has been taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India after discussing this matter with legal experts and expert committee. In this shared list, names of all those OTT platforms, apps, websites have been mentioned, which have been banned and blocked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. The government believes that obscene content has a bad effect on the youth.

Social media channels also blocked

One of these banned apps had more than 1 crore downloads on Google Play Store. At the same time, two apps were downloaded more than 50 lakh times. These apps were airing trailers of films with lewd content on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube. 57 such social media handles have also been blocked. 12 channels from Facebook, 17 from Instagram, 16 from X and 12 from YouTube with this content have been blocked.
