Deepfake Video: Concern has increased after the release of deepfake videos of first Rashmika Mandanna, then Katrina Kaif and Kajol. The central government is now in action. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has called such deepfake videos a threat to democracy. He says that the government will bring a law regarding this within the next 10 days. Both the uploader of such deepfake video and the platform on which it exists will be fined. Last week, PM Narendra Modi warned people about deepfake videos. Now there is talk of bringing a law for this. One thing is clear that internet social media platforms will be directly tightened because they play the biggest role in making these videos viral.

India is not the only country where there are preparations to make a law regarding this. A law has already been made regarding this in China and efforts are being made to legalize its guidelines in European countries also.

How is China's law on deep fakes?

Last year, China had announced the introduction of a law on deep fakes. It was said in its announcement that the law made in this regard will come into effect from January 10, 2023. Now let us understand what all the things were said in this law.

In the rules made by China regarding deep fake, it is clearly stated that if any video is made using such technology, then the permission of the person whose video is being made must be taken. Deep fake technology cannot be used to spread any kind of fake news.

If someone makes a deepfake video, then he will have to tell that the photo or video used in the content has been tampered. That means, while releasing such a video, a disclaimer will have to be issued regarding it.

If their content is against the current rules or creates any kind of hindrance in the country's security or harms the economy, then action will be taken. To ensure that these rules are followed in China, China's Cyberspace Administration monitors it.

Earlier, a bill on data protection was also brought in China. Along with this, in the beginning of 2022, another law was made regarding technology, in which it was clearly said that the firms related to technology will use algorithms.

What is the preparation of the European Union?

Deep fake videos have been a problem for many countries of the world for some time now. China made a boundary line on this. After this, the European Union proposed a law in which social media companies could be asked to remove such videos from their platforms. Apart from this, such information which is misleading should be removed. That is, superficially there has been talk of tightening the noose on social media companies.

How are these deepfake videos made?

With the help of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the face of one person is fitted onto the face of another person in such a way that it looks like his original video. In this, the audio and video are matched in such a way that it becomes difficult to identify whether the video is of the same person or the video of some other person has been tampered with.

Coder and decoder technology works behind this. The decoder first reads the face of the person present in the original video and then superimposes a fake face on his face. If we keep a close eye on the gestures and actions of that person in the video, then to some extent it can be ascertained whether the video is real or fake. However, it may be a little difficult to differentiate between them.
