Rashmika said this serious thing by tweeting

Rashmika Mandanna reacted to this video and said, 'I feel very sad to share this and I have to talk about my deepfake video being spread online. Honestly, something like this is extremely scary not only for me, but for every single one of us who is vulnerable to a lot of harm due to the misuse of technology today. Today as a woman and an actor, I am grateful to my family, friends and well-wishers who have come forward to protect and support me, but I really can't imagine if this had happened to me when I was in school or college. That was how I would deal with it. “We need to act more quickly as a community before more of us are affected by this type of identity theft.”

Deepfake: What is deepfake?

Deepfake is a technology that subtly alters any media. This is done through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Under this, in place of the original person of a photo-video, another person is fitted in his place. When a new video is created through AI, it becomes very difficult for people to recognize the authenticity of the deepfake video.

Deepfake videos look absolutely real. Those who create deepfake videos also change the audio. In this way the common people are misled. In some cases, deepfake technology has also been used for fraud.

Deepafake: How will the government deal?

The scope of deepfake videos has increased significantly. Actress Rashmika Mandanna has described her deepfake video as quite scary. Earlier, Union Minister of State (Electronics and IT) Rajiv Chandrashekhar has reacted to the deepfake video by posting on X (earlier Twitter). He reminded social media platforms of their legal obligations to deal with misleading and fake news.

It is really a difficult task to completely deal with deepfake videos. However, the government has made provisions to prevent such cases under the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000. Under the IT Rules 2021, the government can use the traceability provision. Under this, the government can seek information from social media platforms about the person who first shared fake news, deepfake video or wrong information.

Especially in the case of deepfakes, action can be taken under the IT Act 2000. If a person's personality is tampered with in electronic form, or his misleading or objectionable post is shared, then action can be taken under sections 66C, 66E and 67. There are provisions for fine and jail sentence.

How to avoid deepfake

Identifying deepfake videos is a very difficult task. To avoid becoming a victim of deepfake, be a little careful while sharing your photo or video on social media. If something like deepfake happens to you, then immediately lodge a complaint with the police or cyber cell.

You can also detect deepfake content through these methods.

  • Difference in color etc. between skin and body parts.
  • Shadows around the eyes.
  • Blinking eyes continuously or strangely.
  • Glasses look strange.
  • Mouth and facial expressions appear differently.
  • Lack of coordination of lips with the face.
  • Hair not matching with the face.
  • Strange or fake mole visible on the face.
  • These signs can help you identify the authenticity of deepfake videos.
