Nationalist Congress Party: After there were two factions in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), it was difficult to guess which MLA was in whose camp. Be it Sharad Pawar group or Ajit Pawar's rebel camp, both were silent on the total number of MLAs. But now when the fight has reached the Election Commission and the Assembly Speaker, the figures have also come to light.

Nephew ahead of uncle in numbers game

There are a total of 41 MLAs in Ajit Pawar's camp while Sharad Pawar's camp has 11 MLAs. The total number of NCP MLAs was 54, out of which one MLA has died and the role of Nawab Malik is not yet clear. Ajit Pawar rebelled against his uncle Sharad Pawar and joined hands with BJP in July. On behalf of Sharad Pawar faction, a petition has been filed with the Assembly Speaker to take action against a total of 41 MLAs as per List 10. The Speaker of the Assembly has not yet given notice to any NCP MLA to present his side.

Jayant Patil gave this answer

At the same time, let us tell you that Maharashtra President of Sharad Pawar faction, Jayant Patil, has been avoiding giving a direct answer on the clear number of MLAs even today. Jayant Patil had said, we cannot openly tell the number of how many MLAs Sharad Pawar group has because all the people talk to us privately on phone. He comes and meets us and assures us that he is with Sharad Pawar, hence it is not right to do injustice to him by revealing his name. Jayant Patil also clarified that the notices we have given have been given after careful consideration.

The picture became clear due to legal battle

Earlier, when Sharad Pawar himself was asked how many MLAs he had, Sharad Pawar had said that I have zero MLAs. In the game of numbers, both the groups have been giving statements cautiously, but now that the legal battle is unfolding, the situation has become clear. Ajit faction has approached the Election Commission claiming the party name and election symbol of NCP. The Election Commission had sought answers from the Sharad Pawar faction regarding this. According to sources in Sharad Pawar faction, he had asked for about 14 days' time to file his reply.
