India-Myanmar Border: The militant organization United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-I) in Sagaing region of Myanmar has claimed that the Indian Army has carried out drone attacks on their camps located on the border. According to the organization, one of their senior leaders was killed and about 19 others were injured in this attack. However, the Indian Army has categorically denied having any knowledge of any such operation.Statement of ULFA (I)ULFA (I) said in an official statement that drone attacks were carried out on several of their mobile camps in the early hours. The organization claims that one of their senior leaders was killed in these attacks, while 19 other workers were injured. Apart from this, according to sources, the hideouts of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) were also targeted in these attacks, in which many of their workers were casualties.Response of the Indian ArmyLieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat refuted the claims of ULFA (I) and said, "The Indian Army has no information about any such operation." The army clarified that there is no official record of any such action.History of ULFA(I)The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) is a major militant organization, formed in 1979 by Paresh Barua and his comrades. The aim of the organization was to make Assam an autonomous and sovereign state through armed struggle. The Indian government banned the organization in 1990 and launched a military operation against it.Many important events are recorded in the history of the organization. In 2008, ULFA leader Arabinda Rajkhowa was arrested in Bangladesh and handed over to India. Tea traders in Assam had to leave the region at one time due to the activities of ULFA, which had a profound impact on the economy of the region.Current situationThe claim of drone attacks in Myanmar's Sagaing region has again brought the issues of regional security and cross-border insurgency into discussion. However, the Indian Army's denial and the absence of an official statement raise questions about the veracity of the incident. According to sources, ULFA(I) as well as NSCN-K have suffered losses in these attacks, but independent confirmation of this is yet to be done. This incident underlines the need to keep a close watch on militant activities and actions of security forces along the India-Myanmar border. In future, more clear information will be required on such incidents to ensure peace and stability in the region.
