Measures taken as part of India's COVID-19 vaccination campaign helped the country control the spread of Omicron, which was six times more contagious than the previous wave globally. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said this on Thursday. During a webinar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal talked about India's achievement in vaccination compared to other countries and proactive management by the government. He said that today India has managed Omicron better than other countries. Even today 15-17 lakh cases are being reported globally, but in India about 3000 daily cases are being registered daily.

Over 180 crore vaccine doses given in India

Aggarwal said that India has given more than 180 crore vaccine doses, which is 3.2 times that of the US and 12.5 times that of France. The number of fully immunized beneficiaries in India is more than 81 crore, which is 3.9 times that of the United States and 15.6 times that of France. 96.74 million adult beneficiaries have received at least the first dose in India, which is 2.96 times the population of the US and 6.71 times the population of Russia. On the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 25 million vaccine doses were given in a day, which is equal to the population of Australia. A total of 150 million doses were given in less than a year, the highest in the world.

It was not easy to get 2.5 crore vaccines in a day

He further said that the global data shows that the vaccines were able to compete with the Omicron variant in terms of fewer people being infected, less severe and fewer deaths. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in the webinar, it was not easy to administer 2.5 crore vaccines in a day on PM's birthday and there was no flaw in the system. It shows the power and management skills of India. The Union Health Minister also appreciated the efforts of health workers and NGOs in the COVID crisis management and administration of vaccines in the country.

He also urged the NGOs to continue their efforts in health and wellness centres. He said that our health workers were working relentlessly during the COVID crisis, they did not stop their work and many of them also lost their lives during the pandemic.
