IPl Auction: The next Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is likely to be held in an Indian city between December 13 and 15. This will be a mini-auction, with preparations already underway. While the last two auctions were held in Dubai and. Jeddah, this edition is expected to take place within India.
Retention Deadline Set
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the deadline for franchises to submit their player retention lists has been set for November 15. The retention list requires teams to declare which players they intend to keep in their squad and which ones they will release for the upcoming auction. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued an official statement regarding these dates or deadlines.
Maximum 6 Players Can Be Retained
Under IPL rules, no franchise can retain more than six players. Among these six retained players, there can't be more than five international players and more than two uncapped players. The remaining players must be released into the auction pool.
Each team in the IPL auction is allocated a purse of 120 crore rupees. This purse, however, is subject to deductions based on the number and type of players retained. For instance, retaining one international player reduces the purse by 18 crore rupees. Retaining a second international player further reduces it by 14 crore, a third by 11 crore, a fourth by 18 crore, and a fifth by 14 crore. Retaining an uncapped player leads to a deduction of 4 crore rupees from the purse.
Teams Likely to Release More Players
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals finished in the bottom two positions in the last IPL season. Consequently, it's anticipated that these two teams will retain the fewest players and could release several big names. Rajasthan might consider releasing their captain, Sanju Samson, while Chennai could also part ways with a few prominent players.
Other Players Facing Uncertainty
From other teams, T Natarajan (Delhi), Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav (Lucknow) might also find themselves in the auction pool, seeking new teams. David Miller and Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders) are also among the players who could be released by their current franchises, potentially adding more star power to the mini-auction.
