Jaipur police have initiated legal proceedings against a woman involved in a high-profile road rage incident that occurred in the city's Sodala area, while the action follows the wide circulation of a video on social media showing the woman damaging a motorcycle in the middle of the road. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajarshi Raj, the woman has been identified and has submitted a written apology, admitting to her aggressive behavior during the altercation.
Viral Video Triggers Police Investigation
According to police officials, a video had been trending on social media for the past 3-4 days, depicting a woman repeatedly striking a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The footage showed her initially using a helmet to smash the bike's side mirrors and indicators. When the bike owner attempted to intervene, she picked up a large stone and continued to damage the vehicle's headlight and body. The aggressive nature of the act prompted immediate public concern and subsequent police intervention.
The Root Cause of the Altercation
Investigations revealed that the incident took place on March 23 near the 22 Godam flyover, in front of the Ram Mandir under the Sodala police station jurisdiction. The dispute reportedly began when a scooter rider suddenly applied brakes, causing a following motorcycle to collide with it. A Rapido bike, on which the woman was a passenger, was also affected by the sudden halt. The woman sustained minor scratches and her new trousers were torn in the process, which reportedly triggered her violent reaction.
Intervention by Local MLA and Bystanders
According to witnesses, the woman demanded ₹1700 on the spot as compensation for her damaged clothing. When the motorcyclist refused to pay the amount, the situation escalated. Local MLA Gopal Sharma, who happened to be passing by, stopped to mediate and requested the woman to calm down, while however, she reportedly engaged in an argument with the legislator as well and refused to stop the vandalism despite multiple pleas from bystanders and commuters.
Formal Apology and Admission of Guilt
Following the identification process by the police, the woman was brought in for questioning. She admitted to the act, stating that she had acted out of extreme anger and impulse. While she has provided a written apology and released a video expressing regret, the victim has declined to file a formal First Information Report (FIR). The victim cited fear of further complications as the reason for not pursuing a criminal case against the woman.
Legal Framework and Police Action
Despite the lack of a formal complaint from the victim, the police have decided to take preventive legal action. Officials stated that such public displays of violence pose a threat to public peace and order. Consequently, the police have prepared an 'Istigasa' (a formal report to a magistrate) to present the case before the Executive Magistrate. The authorities emphasized that maintaining public decorum is essential and such incidents will be dealt with according to the law to prevent future occurrences.
