Kapil Sibal Pledges 1 Crore To Cockroach Janta Party For Legal Aid

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal has extended his full support to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) by pledging a substantial fund of 1 crore rupees to establish a comprehensive legal aid framework for students and protesters. The move is aimed at protecting the constitutional rights of those participating in the movement who may face government action or police high-handedness.

Establishing a National Legal Aid Framework

The press conference began with Sourav Das explaining the rationale behind this initiative. He stated that even before the peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar concluded on 25 July, the CJP leadership anticipated that the BJP-led governments might target students and protesters across the country. There were concerns regarding arbitrary detentions, arrests, and the filing of criminal cases to suppress the movement. In light of these apprehensions, the CJP leadership met with Dr, while kapil Sibal to seek his expert legal advice on handling both immediate challenges and future legal battles. During these discussions, Dr. Sibal suggested that the movement should create a solid national legal aid structure by building a network of lawyers across India. To facilitate the functioning of the CJP Legal Aid Cell, he announced a dedicated fund of 1 crore rupees. Dr. Sibal clarified that this amount is strictly for providing legal assistance to protesters and shouldn't be diverted for any other purpose. He has entrusted the CJP leadership with the responsibility of deciding the most effective way to take advantage of these funds. He emphasized that no student or peaceful protester should be deprived of legal representation when facing arbitrary government actions, while he further explained his vision for a cell that would have the support of lawyers in every district of India.

It allows them to securely upload photos and videos of police brutality and excesses they witnessed or experienced. Das urged all protesters to follow the instructions carefully and upload all necessary visual evidence related to police violence during and after the 20 July protest. The CJP leadership had previously declared that every police officer and RAF personnel responsible for unlawful violence against peaceful students would be identified individually.

Accountability for Police Brutality

The party has committed to ensuring accountability for various forms of brutality, including targeting the heads of students, causing serious injuries, breaking bones, and the use of pellet guns, while sourav Das stated that with the help of the legal network being established and the guidance of Dr. Kapil Sibal, proper complaints will be filed, FIRs will be pursued, and legal proceedings will be initiated in competent courts where necessary. Spokesperson Ratna Singh provided detailed information regarding the detention and arrest of students in several BJP-ruled states, specifically mentioning Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam. She assured the affected students that the CJP has stood by them since the beginning and will continue to provide all possible legal and organizational support. Ultimatum to the Government

He reminded the government that during these discussions, an agreement was reached to withdraw all FIRs and punitive actions against peaceful protesters, not just in Delhi but across all BJP and NDA-ruled states, while the government had promised to provide a written guarantee in this regard by Tuesday. Ranka warned that if the government fails to provide the promised written assurance by the end of the day or continues to allow arbitrary detentions and harassment, the Cockroach Janta Party will be forced to resume its peaceful protests.
