Coimbatore / Man alleges he was cheated of Rs 1.2 cr by S P Velumani, complaint filed.

While detectives from the Directorate for Surveillance and Anti-Corruption were raiding the premises of the former minister and leader of OIADMK, Coimbatore resident SP Velumani brought a case against him for fraud. Thiruvengadam, 52, filed a case against Velumani in the Chennai Police Commissioner's office Monday, claiming the former minister cheated on him out of Rs 1.2 crores.  


The plaintiff in the petition said the former minister promised to put him on a contract and raised Rs 1.2 crores, but the contract was given to someone else. He claimed that the former minister had refused his testimony even after repeated requests and had therefore to contact the police.  The plaintiff said the minister took Rs 1.2 crore and his personal assistant Parthiban took Rs 5 lakh in 2016 to agree to provide the contract to him. 


However, when he asked about the money, the duo threatened him, allegedly Thiruvengadam.  He said that Velumani had deposited Rs 5 lakh into his account in 2021 and the staff of the AIADMK leader Vinoth and Parthiban threatened to remove him along with his family if he asked for the money again.  


He said the police are not yet due to initiate proceedings against the former minister over his complaint.  DVAC has been searching 52 Velumani properties since Tuesday morning based on an FIR registered after the DVAC preliminary investigation from two inquiries received one from DMK MP RS Bharathi and the other from V Jayaram.
