Mohan Yadav Government Renames Rajiv Gandhi University, Splits It Into Three New Institutions

In a significant administrative and educational overhaul, the Mohan Yadav led government in Madhya Pradesh has officially decided to rename and restructure the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV). The state cabinet has granted its approval to divide the existing university into three distinct technical universities, while this move is aimed at decentralizing the technical education system in the state and providing better accessibility to students across different regions. The three new entities will be established in Bhopal, Ujjain, and Jabalpur, catering to specific administrative divisions and ensuring that the vast number of students and institutions under the current RGPV umbrella receive more focused attention.

The Three New Technical Universities

The restructuring plan involves the creation of three specialized institutions. The first is the Madhya Proudyogiki Evam Kaushal Vishwavidyalaya, which will be headquartered in Bhopal. This university will oversee all districts falling under the Bhopal, Narmadapuram, and Chambal divisions. The second institution is the Malwa Proudyogiki Evam Kaushal Vishwavidyalaya, which will be based in Ujjain and will cover the educational institutions within the Ujjain and Indore divisions. The third is the Mahakaushal Proudyogiki Evam Kaushal Vishwavidyalaya, located in Jabalpur, which will have jurisdiction over the districts in the Rewa and Sagar divisions. This geographical distribution is designed to streamline the management of technical colleges and skill development centers across Madhya Pradesh.

Minister Rakesh Singh on the Rationale Behind the Decision

Providing further details on the cabinet's decision, PWD Minister Rakesh Singh shared comprehensive statistics regarding the current state of the university. He noted that Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya currently manages 13 different courses and oversees 585 institutions. The total student population enrolled in these programs exceeds 383000 students. Minister Singh emphasized that the decision to split the university was driven by geographical considerations and the need for administrative ease, while he pointed out that the state already possesses several engineering colleges with sufficient land and infrastructure, making them ideal locations for these new university headquarters. Under the suggestion of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, these institutions will now be known as 'Proudyogiki Evam Kaushal Vishwavidyalaya' (Technology and Skill Universities), reflecting a renewed focus on skill development alongside technical education.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's Recent Initiatives

The announcement regarding the university comes at a time when Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has been actively involved in several student-centric and developmental programs. Recently, the Chief Minister participated in the 'Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana' (Talented Student Incentive Scheme) held at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center in Bhopal. During this event, he distributed laptops to students who secured more than 75 percent marks in their 12th-grade examinations. A total amount exceeding 304 crore rupees was transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 121000 students to facilitate the purchase of these laptops. Each eligible student received a sum of 25000 rupees as part of this initiative. Plus, the Chief Minister has been focusing on regional development, as evidenced by his recent visit to the Naxal-affected area of Bondari, where he interacted with the local population and announced developmental projects worth 225 crore rupees for the Balaghat region.
