The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather update indicating that the Southwest Monsoon is poised to make significant progress across various parts of India. On June 26, several regions in Northwest and Central India are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall. This development marks a crucial phase in the seasonal weather pattern as the monsoon prepares to cover more territory in the coming days.

Monsoon Arrival in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand

According to the latest meteorological forecasts, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to reach Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand within the next 48 hours. The conditions are currently highly favorable for the further advancement of the monsoon into these states. This advancement isn't limited to the northern belt; the monsoon is also expected to cover the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar during the same 48 hour window. The weather department has noted that the atmosphere is conducive for the monsoon to push further into more areas of Northwest India, signaling a more active phase of the rainy season. Between June 27 and June 29, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya.

Regional Rainfall Alerts and Forecasts

The weather department has predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall across Northwest India this week, which will be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. In Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh, intermittent rain is expected, with heavy rainfall likely in some areas on June 25 and June 26. Himachal Pradesh is on alert for heavy rain from June 26 to June 30. In Punjab, heavy rain is expected in certain locations on June 27 and June 28. Residents of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi should also prepare for rainfall. Due to the arrival of the monsoon, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places between June 27 and July 1.

Central and Western India Weather Outlook

In Central India, Madhya Pradesh is likely to see heavy rain in some areas on June 25 and June 26, with the spell of heavy rain expected to continue until June 30. Vidarbha is also slated to receive a good round of rainfall. Chhattisgarh is expected to experience a vigorous spell of rain, with heavy rainfall predicted in some places between June 25 and June 29. Moving to Western India, Konkan and Goa are under a heavy to very heavy rain alert from June 25 to June 30. Specifically, on June 25, there is a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of this region. Madhya Maharashtra is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain between June 25 and June 29, while the Gujarat region may see heavy rain from June 25 to June 28 as the monsoon strengthens over Western India. Coastal Karnataka is also expected to receive significant rainfall, with heavy rain predicted for June 25 and June 26.

Alerts for Bihar and Northeast India

The IMD has projected that the spell of rain will continue in Eastern and Northeastern India until July 1. In Bihar, the intensity of rain is expected to increase towards the end of the week, with heavy rain likely on June 27 and June 28. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy rain from June 25 to June 29. In Assam and Meghalaya, heavy rain is predicted for June 25 and June 26. Arunachal Pradesh has a heavy rain forecast for June 25. Further south in the Northeast, states like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience heavy rainfall in some areas on June 25 and June 26.
