Covid-19 | The global death toll from the Corona epidemic has crossed 40 lakh on Wednesday. At the same time, after the highly contagious delta form of the virus has come to the fore, the difficulty of carrying out vaccination has also increased. According to estimates of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, this figure of deaths in one and a half years is almost equal to the number of people killed in wars in the world after 1982. This number is more than three times the number of people killed in road accidents worldwide every year. This is equal to the population of Los Angeles or Georgia. This number is more than half the population of Hong Kong or about 50 percent of the population of New York City. Despite this, most are of the view that this number is not the actual number as either some cases are not noticed or some are being deliberately hidden.

Every day deaths since the introduction of vaccination have come down to about 7,900, up from 18,000 per day in January. But in recent weeks, Delta, a modified version of the virus first found in India, has caused a worldwide stir, spreading rapidly to countries such as the US, UK and Israel that have been successful in vaccination. In fact, more than 30,000 cases of infection were reported in Britain this week for the first time since January, while the government is preparing to lift all remaining lockdown restrictions at the end of this month. Other countries have re-imposed precautionary measures and officials are ramping up campaigns for a vaccine.

America has the highest number of deaths worldwide, where six lakh people have died due to this disease or one in every seven has died in the country itself. This was followed by 520,000 deaths in Brazil, where the real number is believed to be much higher, where the far-right government of President Jair Bolsonaro has long downplayed the virus.
