MP Pappu Yadav Arrested in 31-Year-Old Case by Patna Police

Independent MP Pappu Yadav was arrested by Patna Police late Friday night in connection with a 1995 case. Following high-voltage drama at his residence, the MP was shifted to PMCH after reporting health issues. The arrest follows a special court warrant for non-appearance during trial.

In a significant late-night operation, the Patna Police arrested Independent Member of Parliament from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, from his residence in Mandiri, while the arrest pertains to a 31-year-old criminal case in which a special court in Patna had issued a warrant against him. The police action, which commenced around midnight on Friday, involved a three-hour standoff between the authorities and the MP's supporters. Following the arrest, Yadav was admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday morning after complaining of health complications.

The 1995 Legal Case and Court Orders

According to official police records, the arrest is linked to a case registered in 1995 involving charges under Sections 468, 506, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Patna City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh stated that the trial for this case has been ongoing, and the MP was required to appear before the court on scheduled dates. Due to repeated non-appearance, the special court issued an arrest warrant against Yadav and two other accused. The police team executed the warrant following the court's directive to ensure his presence for the judicial proceedings.

High-Voltage Drama at Mandiri Residence

The arrest operation was marked by intense drama as over 100 police personnel, including five DSPs and six station house officers, cordoned off the MP's residence. When the police reached the upper floor of the building, a heated exchange occurred between Yadav and the investigating officers. The MP initially refused to cooperate with the late-night arrest, questioning the timing of the police action. As news of the police presence spread, a large number of supporters gathered at the site, leading to minor scuffles, while yadav reportedly fainted during the process of being escorted to the police vehicle.

Medical Evaluation and Hospitalization

Following his detention, Pappu Yadav reported severe headache and an increased heart rate. He was initially taken to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) for a preliminary check-up. On Saturday morning, he was shifted to PMCH on a stretcher for further evaluation. Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh, Superintendent of PMCH, confirmed that the MP is undergoing an ultrasound and other diagnostic tests. A dedicated team of doctors is monitoring his condition, while the hospital administration has increased security to maintain order within the premises.

Legal Implications and Current Status

Legal analysts suggest that since the arrest is based on a court warrant for non-appearance, the police are mandated to produce the accused before the concerned magistrate within 24 hours. Depending on the medical reports, the MP may be produced in court via video conferencing or in person. Yadav has expressed concerns regarding his safety while in custody, alleging political motives behind the revival of the old case. The Patna Police have maintained that the action is strictly procedural and in compliance with judicial orders. Security remains tightened across key areas in Patna to prevent any law and order issues.
