Bengal by-election / Naseeruddin Shah's niece Saira will contest from Ballygunge, CPIM gave ticket

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has fielded Saira Shah Haleem, the niece of Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah, for the by-election to the Ballygunge assembly seat. Haleem will contest the Ballygunge assembly by-election against Trinamool Congress leader Babul Supriyo in Kolkata on April 12. Shah Haleem has campaigned against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and is the daughter of Lt Gen Jamir Uddin Shah, a former deputy chief of army staff. With the entry of Saira and Babul Supriyo in the electoral fray, the contest in Ballygunge has become high profile. Haleem is also the daughter-in-law of former Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim.

CPI(M) fielded Partha Mukherjee from Asansol Lok Sabha

The CPI(M) has fielded Partha Mukherjee for the by-election to the Asansol Lok Sabha seat and will contest against film star Shatrughan Sinha.

While the BJP has not yet named its candidates for the bypolls. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that there was speculation that the TMC would field the president of the party's youth wing Sayoni Ghosh, considered close to Abhishek Banerjee, from Asansol.

Election on April 12, counting of votes on April 16

The bypolls to the Ballygunge seat will be held on April 12 and the counting of votes will be held on April 16. Let us inform that the Lok Sabha seat of Bengal had fallen vacant after the resignation of Babul Supriyo, due to which the by-election has to be held here. Apart from this, the Ballygunge assembly seat has fallen vacant after the death of TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee, after which by-elections will now be held here as well.
