Dwarka Expressway: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two important road projects in Haryana on 17 August 2025. The start of these projects is expected to provide great relief to the residents of Delhi and NCR region from traffic jams. These projects include the country's first 8-lane Urban Elevated Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2). The start of these roads will not only reduce travel time but will also make freight transportation easier.

Dwarka Expressway: Delhi to Gurugram in 20 minutes

The Urban Elevated Dwarka Expressway is the country's first 8-lane expressway, built from Gurugram to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Its total length is 29 km, of which 18.9 km comes in Haryana and 10.1 km in Delhi. This expressway starts from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur, Delhi and ends at Kherki Daula Toll Plaza in Gurugram.

The project also includes the country's widest tunnel, 3.6 km long. Earlier, the journey from Delhi to Gurugram used to take more than an hour, which often led to long traffic jams. Now with the opening of this expressway, this distance can be covered in just 20 minutes. This will be especially beneficial for the residents of Gurugram, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, and surrounding areas. Apart from this, passengers coming and going from cities like Faridabad, Manesar, Sonipat, Panipat, and Chandigarh will also get convenience.

These areas will benefit

Dwarka Expressway will benefit millions of people from outlying and rural areas like Bawana, Narela, Mundka, Rohini, Samaypur Badli, Kanjhawala, and Kiradi. This project will reduce 50% of the traffic on the road from Dhaula Kuan to Gurugram. Also, it will be easy to reach DDA flats in Narela and Bawana.

Urban Extension Road-2: Delhi's third ring road

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 75.81 km long Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) along with the Dwarka Expressway. This 6-lane road has several elevated sections, which will help in decongesting traffic in Delhi, Gurugram, Sonipat, and surrounding areas. It starts from the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway in Alipur, Delhi and passes through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, Dwarka and ends at the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway near Mahipalpur.

UER-2 is designed as the third ring road of Delhi, with an estimated cost of ₹6,445 crore. The road will start near Akshardham Temple and connect to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which will facilitate passengers going to Dehradun from Haryana and Rajasthan. With its opening, the journey from Noida to IGI Airport will also be completed in less time. Also, there will be less congestion on Delhi's Ring Road, NH-48, NH-44, and Barapullah Elevated Corridor.

Freedom from traffic jams

The total cost of these two projects is around ₹11,000 crores. The Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway will promote multi-modal connectivity, which will integrate rail, metro, and bus services. At the same time, UER-2 will play an important role in reducing traffic in congested areas of Delhi. With the opening of these roads, people will not only be able to catch flights and trains on time, but the fear of getting stuck in traffic jams will also end.
