In response to the sudden outbreak of violence and arson in Noida's industrial sectors, the Gautam Buddha Nagar police administration has canceled all leaves for its personnel. According to official directives, all officers and constables currently on leave have been ordered to report back to duty immediately. This move comes as the district remains on high alert following clashes between factory workers and security forces in Phase 2, which led to significant property damage and public disorder.
Escalation of Violence in Phase 2 Industrial Area
The unrest began as a protest by employees demanding a salary hike in the Phase 2 industrial zone. However, the demonstration quickly turned violent as protesters engaged in stone-pelting and arson. Near the Motherson company premises, a police vehicle was targeted by the mob, vandalized, and subsequently overturned. Several other private vehicles were also damaged during the rampage. The local administration had to deploy additional police reinforcements and paramilitary units to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
Indefinite Closure of Factories Amid Safety Concerns
The scale of violence has prompted several factory owners to shut down their operations indefinitely, while industrialists reported that chaotic elements entered factory premises, damaged machinery, and physically assaulted staff members. According to factory management, many employees sustained injuries during the clashes. Owners expressed that the decision to close units was taken to ensure the safety of their remaining workforce, stating that operations will remain suspended until a secure working environment is guaranteed by the authorities.
High-Level Committee Constituted on CM Yogi's Orders
Taking serious note of the industrial disharmony in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the formation of a high-level committee. The committee is tasked with restoring peace and establishing an effective dialogue between industrial units and workers. The panel includes the Additional Chief Secretary of the MSME Department, the Principal Secretary of the Labor Department, and the Labor Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, along with the Divisional Commissioner of Meerut and the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Worker Grievances and Administrative Deliberations
The newly formed committee has initiated meetings with representatives from various labor unions and companies to address the root causes of the unrest. During these discussions, workers presented a list of demands, including a substantial wage hike, mandatory weekly offs, and double payment for overtime hours. They also emphasized the need for a respectful working environment and better safety protocols. Senior administrative and police officials have assured that while legitimate grievances will be reviewed, strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty of inciting violence.
