Pakistan New Army Chief Appointment: Today Pakistan will get a new Army Chief in the form of Lieutenant General Asim Munir. According to the report, General Faiz Hamid, former chief of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has applied for early retirement from the army as soon as Munir became the chief. According to Geo News, General Hamid, currently serving as the Corps Commander of Bahawalpur, is one of the top military officers of Pakistan. He was one of the six senior army officers nominated for the post of Chief of Army Staff. He has sent a request for early retirement to the Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Let us tell you that this is the second such case of seeking early retirement after the Government of Pakistan appointed General Asim Munir as the new Army Chief and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. A few days ago, the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Pakistan Army, Lt. General Azhar Abbas has also sought early retirement. He is also among the senior most officers and his name was also among the contenders for the army chief.

If sources are to be believed, he was quite sure that he would become the new army chief, but he is said to be very angry since his name was cut.

Talking about the journey of General Abbas, he was commissioned in 41 Baloch Regiment in 1987 after passing out from the Pakistan Military Academy. At present he is the head of the General Staff. His current post is of CGS. Prior to this responsibility, he has also been the head of X Corps in Rawalpindi. While on this post, there was a ceasefire agreement on LoC in 2003 between India and Pakistan Army. Lieutenant General Abbas has also been the head of the 12 Infantry Division located in Muri. Here also he had fulfilled his responsibility well. Then he also had the responsibility of Kashmir.
