Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the historic torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi. The Prime Minister also addressed the gathering on the occasion. The 44th edition of the world's biggest chess event will be held at Mahabalipuram near Chennai from July 28 to August 10.
The international chess body (FIDE) has established for the first time the torch relay, which is part of the Olympic tradition, but has never been done before at the Chess Olympiad.
