Pingali Venkaiah belonged to Andhra, on the suggestion of Gandhiji added white band

Pingali Venkaiah was born on 2 August 1876 in Bhatlapenumuru, Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He was a soldier in the British Army. He made many variations of the national flag. One of his designs was approved in the 1921 session of the Indian National Congress presided over by Mahatma Gandhi in Vijayawada. The design that Venkaiah had told Gandhiji had two green and red stripes and a spinning wheel in the middle. Gandhiji asked them to add a white band.

For the first time since 1921 the flag prepared by Venkaiah was approved informally in all the meetings of the Congress. After this, in 1931, the current tricolor was formally approved. This tricolor is the non-violent movement of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and now remains the pride of the country.
