PM Modi to Inaugurate Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Travel Time Cut to 2.5 Hours

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the ₹12,000 crore Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor today. The 213 km long expressway will reduce travel time between the two cities from 6 hours to 2.5 hours, featuring Asia's longest elevated wildlife corridor to protect regional biodiversity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor today, a project of immense strategic and economic importance for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Built at a cost of approximately ₹12,000 crore, this 213 km long, six-lane access-controlled expressway is designed to transform connectivity between the national capital and the capital of Uttarakhand. According to officials, the primary objective of this project is to drastically reduce travel time while providing a significant boost to economic activities and tourism in the region. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inspect the elevated section of the expressway and address a public gathering during the event.

Massive Reduction in Travel Time and Connectivity

The commencement of this expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun by more than half. 5 hours. The expressway directly connects Delhi, Baghpat, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and Dehradun in Uttarakhand, while according to officials, this high-speed corridor will facilitate the easy movement of goods and passengers between major economic hubs in North India.

Engineering Marvel: Asia’s Longest Wildlife Corridor

A standout feature of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is its eco-friendly engineering, while given that the route passes through the sensitive wildlife zones of Rajaji National Park, a 12 km long elevated wildlife corridor has been constructed. This is the longest of its kind in Asia. To ensure the safety of wildlife, 8 dedicated animal passes have been integrated into the design. Specifically, two 200-meter underpasses have been prepared for elephant movement, ensuring that road traffic doesn't interfere with natural animal migration patterns.

Advanced Infrastructure and Safety Features

The project incorporates state-of-the-art infrastructure. It includes 10 interchanges, 3 Railway Over Bridges (ROBs), 4 major bridges, and 12 way-side amenities for travelers. For enhanced safety, the entire corridor is equipped with an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). Also, a 370-meter long tunnel has been constructed as part of the expressway. This infrastructure meets international standards for both speed and safety, ensuring a smooth transit experience for all vehicles.

Economic and Tourism Impact

According to officials, this economic corridor is expected to be a game-changer for the tourism sector in Uttarakhand. Access to Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Rishikesh will become Notably easier for tourists coming from the Delhi-NCR region. Also, local industries in Saharanpur and surrounding areas will benefit from faster transportation of goods to Delhi's markets, while the project is viewed as a major step toward creating new employment opportunities and strengthening the local economy in the region.

Inauguration Ceremony and Temple Visit

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will inspect the wildlife corridor built on the elevated section in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Following the inspection, he will offer prayers at the famous Maa Dat Kali Temple located near Dehradun. After the temple visit, the Prime Minister will address a public meeting and formally dedicate this ambitious project to the nation. Senior leaders and officials from both Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are expected to attend the ceremony.
