UP Wage Hike: Government Increases Minimum Salary by ₹3000 Post Noida Protests

Following intense labor protests in Noida and Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a hike in minimum wages by ₹1000 to ₹3000 across various categories. The new wage structure will be implemented statewide starting April 1, 2026, benefiting unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers.

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage for laborers across the state. This decision follows recent large-scale labor movements and protests in the industrial hubs of Noida and Greater Noida, while based on the recommendations of a high-level committee, the government has approved increments ranging from ₹1000 to nearly ₹3000 across different labor categories. The new government order is scheduled to come into effect across the entire state from April 1, 2026.

Significant Hike for Noida and Ghaziabad Regions

The government has designated specific wage structures for the high-industrial zones of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) and Ghaziabad. For unskilled workers in these areas, the minimum wage has been raised from ₹11313 to ₹13690, marking an increase of ₹2377. Semi-skilled workers will see their wages rise from ₹12445 to ₹15059, an increment of ₹2614. Skilled workers will receive the highest benefit, with their wages increasing from ₹13940 to ₹16868, resulting in an additional monthly gain of ₹2928.

Revised Wage Structure for Other Municipal Corporations

In other municipal corporation areas across Uttar Pradesh, the wage structure has also been upwardly revised. Unskilled workers in these regions will now receive ₹13006 instead of ₹11313, an increase of ₹1693. The wages for semi-skilled workers have been adjusted from ₹12445 to ₹14306, reflecting a hike of ₹1861. For skilled workers, the new rate has been fixed at ₹16025, up from ₹13940, providing them with a monthly increase of ₹2085.

Wage Adjustments for Other Districts

For the remaining districts outside major municipal corporations, the government has ensured a proportional increase in earnings. The minimum wage for unskilled workers in these districts has been raised from ₹11313 to ₹12356, an increase of ₹1043. Semi-skilled workers will now earn ₹13591 compared to the previous ₹12445, seeing a rise of ₹1146. Skilled workers in these regions will have their wages increased from ₹13940 to ₹15224, resulting in a gain of ₹1284 per month.

Government Stance and Clarification on Wage Claims

The official government order emphasizes a balanced approach between industrial sustainability and worker welfare. According to officials, while the industrial sector is currently grappling with rising raw material costs and production pressures, addressing the grievances of the labor force was a priority. The Chief Minister's office clarified that this hike is an immediate relief measure. Also, the government has dismissed viral social media reports claiming a minimum wage of ₹20000 as misleading. It was explicitly stated that only official orders are valid, and a long-term solution through a dedicated Wage Board will be pursued in the future.
