Nari Shakti Award / President Ram Nath Kovind honored 29 women including snake rescuers, entrepreneurs, mathematicians

On the occasion of International Women's Day, President Ram Nath Kovind honored 29 women with Nari Shakti Awards for their outstanding service in various fields including snake-saving, organic farming, entrepreneurship, art, education.

The President presented 28 awards to women who have rendered outstanding services for the empowerment of women. These include 14 awards for 2020 and 14 awards for 2021.

Under the initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Nari Shakti Puraskars are given in recognition of the remarkable contribution made by individuals and institutions. The Nari Shakti Puraskar winners for the year 2020 include women working in the fields of entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, arts, handicrafts, STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics) and wildlife conservation. The Nari Shakti Puraskar winners for the year 2021 include women who have contributed in areas such as linguistics, entrepreneurship, agriculture, social work, arts, handicrafts, merchant navy, STEMM, education, literature, rights of persons with disabilities.

Merchant Navy captain Radhika Menon, social entrepreneur Anita Gupta, organic farming tribal activist Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, innovation renown Nasira Akhtar, Intel India chief Nivritti Rai, Down syndrome Kathak dancer Sayli Nandkishore They include Vanitha Jagdev Borade, the first woman to save snakes, and mathematician Neena Gupta.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the winners during the meeting that it is important to ensure that all women become part of the decision-making process at the family level, which will be possible as a result of their economic empowerment. He said that the government's programs like 'Vocal for Local' depend on the contribution of women.
