Cricket / Rahul Dravid to earn ₹10-crore salary as Team India head coach: Reports

Cricket Desk: Rahul Dravid is set to continue his association with Team India as he has been reportedly appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Dravid, who was one of the BCCI's guests for the IPL 2021 final, was reportedly finalised for the job on Friday night.

As per The Times of India, Dravid's contract will run till 2023. He will take over the job after T20 World Cup 2021, which ends in November. Dravid is presently the head of the National Cricket Academy and will leave that post before taking over as India's head coach.

The report adds that Dravid has been offered a hefty contract and will be drawing a salary of Rs 10 crore. The amount makes him one of the highest-paid Indian coaches.

The report adds that Dravid will be joined by Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach while Vikram Rathour will continue as the batting coach. Paras has worked with Dravid at the U-19 level and also travelled to Sri Lanka in the same capacity. He was the head coach of the India U-19 cricket team which made it to the final of the 2020 World Cup.

Dravid will be replacing Ravi Shastri whereas Paras will replace Bharat Arun. There is no word on fielding coach R Sridhar's replacement. Under Dravid, Tem India will likely play 3 ICC events. There's a T20 World Cup next year and a 50-over World Cup in 2023. The final of the World Test Championship is also scheduled to take place in 2023.

This will be the third time when Dravid will be working with Team India. His first stint came in 2014, when he travelled to England as a batting consultant for the Test series. In July 2021, Dravid returned as interim head coach as Shastri-led coaching staff was in England.

An ICC Hall of Famer, Dravid played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and 1 T20I in his illustrious career. As a coach, he has also worked with India A team, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
