The political atmosphere in India has intensified as the Congress party launched a massive nationwide protest against the registration of an FIR against senior leader Rahul Gandhi in Uttarakhand. From the hills of Dehradun to the national capital of Delhi, Congress workers have taken to the streets to express their outrage. The party has issued a stern warning to the administration, stating that if the FIR isn't revoked, they will launch a state-wide agitation and sit-in protests. The Genesis of the Controversy in Haldwani

The roots of this political storm lie in an event that took place in Haldwani. On August 8, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a public meeting at the Ramlila Maidan. Three days later, on August 11, certain individuals reportedly organized a purification yagya at the same venue. Rahul Gandhi reacted sharply to this ritual, labeling it as a form of untouchability and demanding action against those involved. However, the situation took a turn when an FIR was registered against Rahul Gandhi himself on Sunday night. The complaint was lodged by Amit Kumar, a member of the Valmiki community and the Shri Ram Sena Dharmaswa Seva Nyas. The group alleged that Gandhi made accusations of anti-Dalit sentiment and untouchability without even contacting the people involved in the ritual.

Nationwide Impact: Kerala, Jharkhand, and Telangana

The ripples of the Uttarakhand FIR are being felt across several states, while in Telangana, Youth Congress workers staged a protest outside the BJP state office, where they reportedly threw black paint on the back gate as a mark of defiance. In Jharkhand, the state unit of the Congress organized a protest march in Ranchi. Led by State President Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, the march proceeded from Congress Bhavan to Albert Ekka Chowk. The party leaders burned effigies of the central government, calling the FIR a conspiracy to suppress the voice of democracy, while d. Satheesan condemned the Uttarakhand government's action. In a post on X, Satheesan described the FIR against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha as extremely concerning.

Delhi Congress Mobilizes for Massive Protests

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee has also joined the offensive. State President Devender Yadav slammed the BJP, pointing out that an FIR was registered against Rahul Gandhi within 24 hours of him raising the issue of injustice and discrimination against Dalits. Yadav emphasized that untouchability is a punishable offense under the Constitution and argued that action should have been taken against those who performed the purification ritual instead. He announced that Congress workers would hold protests across all 14 organizational districts of Delhi this Tuesday. Thousands of workers are expected to participate in these demonstrations against what they call the RSS-driven ideology being implemented in BJP-ruled states.
