The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has embarked on a significant administrative transformation by deciding to adopt the management framework of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. This decision was formalized during a high-level meeting on Monday, where the Trust established a three-member high-power committee to oversee the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This strategic move follows recent allegations of financial irregularities and the theft of offerings at the Ram Mandir, necessitating a more professional and transparent governance structure.
The newly constituted committee features a blend of judicial wisdom and military discipline. It includes retired Judge Pramod Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnukant, and retired Lieutenant General Suresh Hawade. These individuals have been tasked with the critical responsibility of vetting and selecting candidates who possess the necessary expertise to manage the complex operations of the temple. Their recommendations will be presented to the Trust for final approval, ensuring that the new CEO brings a high level of integrity and administrative prowess to the role.
Acceptance of Resignations and New Leadership
During the intensive three-hour session, the Trust officially accepted the resignations of General Secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra. The departure of these key figures marks a turning point in the Trust's administration, following the public outcry over the alleged theft of temple offerings. To fill the immediate leadership vacuum, Krishna Mohan has been appointed as the interim General Secretary, taking on these additional responsibilities to ensure that the temple's daily affairs and construction activities continue without interruption.
Treasurer Govind Dev Giri, while briefing the press after the conclusion of the meeting, confirmed that the resignations were accepted as part of the Trust's commitment to accountability. The meeting, which began at 3:15 PM and lasted until 6:30 PM, took place at the guest house within the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, a site of immense historical and religious significance.
Addressing Public Concerns and Management Lapses
The primary focus of the meeting was to address the fallout from the alleged misappropriation of funds and offerings. Govind Dev Giri candidly admitted that there were noticeable gaps in the Trust's management protocols, while he expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating that the news of the alleged theft has deeply pained millions of devotees who hold the temple in the highest regard.
"Millions of Ram devotees are hurt," Giri stated, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. By moving towards the Tirupati model, the Trust aims to implement a system that has been proven effective in managing one of the world's most visited religious sites. This model typically involves a professional CEO and a structured administrative hierarchy, which the Trust believes will prevent future lapses and restore public confidence.
