Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi is once again making headlines, shifting the spotlight from his past controversies to his future cinematic plans. After a period of intense public discussion regarding his relationship with actress Sushmita Sen, Modi has now disclosed that a biopic based on his life is officially in the works. While the actor who will eventually portray him on the silver screen has not been finalized, Modi shared intriguing details about a high-profile meeting with Bollywood powerhouse Ranveer Singh in London. According to Modi, the actor had shown a significant interest in stepping into his shoes for the biographical project.
The London Meeting and Ranveer Singh Interest
In a detailed interview with ANI, Lalit Modi revealed that the groundwork for the biopic has already begun. He mentioned that the script is currently being written by a dedicated team. Modi shared that he has already participated in hundreds of interviews to provide material for the story, while the project is being spearheaded by a team led by Sneha Rajani, the former head of Sony, who is currently overseeing the scriptwriting process. When the conversation turned to who might play him, Modi recalled a meeting that took place approximately 2 years ago in London.
Modi stated that Ranveer Singh had personally reached out to meet him. Interestingly, Modi admitted that while he knew Deepika Padukone very well, he wasn't acquainted with Ranveer at the time. He received a call stating that Ranveer wanted to meet him, and the actor subsequently visited him at his residence in London. During this meeting, Ranveer reportedly expressed a deep desire to play the role of Lalit Modi, stating that if there was one character he truly wanted to portray in his career, it was the former IPL boss. Modi noted that this wasn't a suggestion from his side, but a spontaneous expression of interest from the actor himself.
Praise for Ranveer Acting Prowess
Lalit Modi was full of praise for Ranveer Singh's talent, specifically highlighting his performance in the film Dhurandhar, while he described Ranveer as a fantastic actor and expressed his admiration for the work he has done so far. However, Modi also acknowledged the reality of the film industry, noting that Ranveer is now a massive star and his availability would depend on his schedule, while while they had a serious discussion about the role 2 years ago in the very same house where the interview was being conducted, Modi clarified that he's unsure if Ranveer still holds the same level of interest today. He emphasized that the script is a work in progress and requires significant effort to perfect.
Clarifications on Relationship with Sushmita Sen
The interview also touched upon Lalit Modi's past relationship with former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, while addressing the intense trolling and the gold digger labels that were directed at the actress, Modi stood firmly in her defense. He referred to a statement made by Sushmita where she called herself a diamond digger rather than a gold digger. Modi clarified that they were in a relationship and remain good friends today, while he strongly refuted the negative labels, describing Sushmita as a wealthy, self-made woman who has earned her fortune through hard work. He praised her as a wonderful mother who is raising her two daughters excellently. Also, Modi made a surprising revelation that Sushmita never took anything from him financially and, in fact, had even covered his expenses at times.
