MI vs GT: Surya (103 not out off 49 balls) scored his maiden century as Mumbai Indians secured a 27-run win over defending champions Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2023. With this win, the team has regained its place at number three in the table. The team has 14 points in its account and is 3 points away from the playoffs, while the wait for Gujarat standing on the threshold of the playoffs has increased. The team is one win away from qualification.

Gujarat won the toss and chose bowling at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, Mumbai scored 218 for 5 in 20 overs with the help of Suryakumar Yadav's first IPL century. In reply, Gujarat batsmen could only manage 191 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

GT lost 3 wickets in powerplay

Chasing the target of 219 runs, Gujarat got off to a bad start. The team lost the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha in the very second over. Captain Hardik Pandya was also caught out in the third over. In the fourth over, opener Shubman Gill was bowled by Akash Madhwal. The team could only manage 48 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 6 overs.

He shared a not out partnership of 65 off 42 balls with Vishnu Vinod and 54 off 18 balls with Cameron Green. In partnership with Green, Surya scored 50 off 15 balls.

Surya scored the fourth century of the current season of the tournament. Before him, Harry Brook of Hyderabad, Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan and Venkatesh Iyer of Kolkata have also scored centuries this season. Suryakumar has 3 centuries in T20 International.

Rashid took 4 wickets

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Gujarat Titans could not take a single wicket in the powerplay, but in the 7th over, Rashid Khan gave the team two successes. He also took the wicket of Tim David in the 17th over of the innings after dismissing Nehal Wadhera in the middle. In this way, he took 4 wickets for 30 runs in his 4 over spell.

None except Rashid walked

Apart from Surya from Mumbai, Nehal Wadhera scored 15, Vishnu Vinod 30, Tim David scored 5 and Cameron Green scored 3 runs. Apart from Rashid from Gujarat, only Mohit Sharma could take a wicket. Rohit Sharma got out on the very first ball of the 7th over after not losing a wicket in the powerplay. In the same over, Rashid Khan made Ishaan Kishan walk as well. Rohit scored 29 and Ishaan scored 31 runs.
