RCB vs GT Qualifier 1: Bangalore Enters IPL 2026 Final After Dominant Win

Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their spot in the IPL 2026 final by defeating Gujarat Titans by 92 runs in Qualifier 1 at Dharamshala, led by Rajat Patidar's explosive 93.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) delivered a masterclass performance in the first qualifier of IPL 2026 to secure their place in the tournament's grand final. In a high-stakes encounter held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, Bangalore defeated Gujarat Titans by a massive margin of 92 runs. Batting first, Bangalore posted a colossal total of 254 runs in their 20 overs. In response, the Gujarat Titans' batting order failed to withstand the pressure and was bundled out for 162 runs. This victory marks the fifth time in IPL history and the second consecutive year that Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached the final, while the defending champions, who won their first title last season by defeating Punjab, now have a significant opportunity to retain their crown.

Batsmen Set the Stage for RCB

The foundation of Royal Challengers Bangalore's victory was laid by their batting unit, while virat Kohli provided a brisk start, scoring 43 runs off 25 deliveries. However, it was captain Rajat Patidar who turned the match into a one-sided affair, while the right-handed batsman played a blistering unbeaten knock of 93 runs from just 33 balls. His innings featured 9 massive sixes and 5 boundaries, operating at an incredible strike rate of over 281. Alongside him, Krunal Pandya played a crucial role by contributing 43 runs, ensuring Bangalore reached the daunting total of 254 runs.

Gujarat Titans Batting Collapse

Chasing a target of 255 runs, the Gujarat Titans' batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards. Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 14 runs via hit-wicket, while captain Shubman Gill was bowled for just 2 runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler showed some intent with 29 runs off 11 balls, but the middle order failed to provide any resistance. Nishant Sindhu scored 5, Washington Sundar managed 8, and Jason Holder was dismissed for a duck. Although Rahul Tewatia fought hard with a half-century to stabilize the innings temporarily, the team eventually succumbed to a heavy defeat. For RCB, pacer Jacob Duffy was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, while Rasikh Salam Dar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed 2 wickets each.

Fielding Lapses Cost Gujarat Dearly

While Gujarat struggled in both departments, their poor fielding was the primary reason for their downfall. The team missed several opportunities, most notably giving Rajat Patidar two lifelines within three balls. During the 14th over bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Patidar's catch was dropped on the first ball when he was batting on only 18 runs. On the third ball of the same over, Kagiso Rabada dropped another straightforward catch. Patidar capitalized on these mistakes and played a whirlwind innings that propelled his team into the final.

Another Opportunity for Gujarat Titans

Despite the loss, Gujarat Titans still have a chance to reach the IPL 2026 final. They will compete in the second qualifier against the winner of the Eliminator match. The Eliminator between Hyderabad and Rajasthan is scheduled for May 27 at 7:30 PM at the New Chandigarh Stadium. The winner of that clash will face Gujarat on May 29 in New Chandigarh for the final spot in the championship match.
