Commonwealth Games 2022: The first medal of the Indian team in the Commonwealth Games has arrived. Weightlifter Sanket Mahadev has won silver medal for India in 55 kg weight category. With this, Sanket has become the first player to win any medal from India in the Commonwealth Games this year. Sanket was also very close to winning the gold, but in the end he fell a little behind and the gold medal was won by Malaysia's Bin Kasdan Mohamed Anik.

Sanket opened India's account

Sanket Mahadev Sargar successfully lifted 135 kg in clean and jerk. With this, his total weight was 248 kg. He also injured himself in his second clean and jerk attempt. He tried to lift 139 kg in his third attempt, but he failed. The gold in his category was won by Malaysia's Bin Kasdan Mohamed Anik. Dilanka Isuru Kumara Yodage of Sri Lanka won the bronze medal.

Left behind by just one kilo

Sagar, 21, from Maharashtra's Sangli district, was on his way to the gold medal but missed out on a kilo after two failed attempts in clean and jerk. He won the silver medal by lifting 248 kg (113 and 135 kg). Mohamed Anik of Malaysia won the gold medal by lifting a total of 249 kg by creating a new Games record in clean and jerk. He lifted 107 kg in snatch and 142 kg in clean and jerk.

Were running in the forefront of the snatch

Sagar was on top in snatch but only one attempt was successful in clean and jerk in which he lifted 135 kg. After this, due to injury, he could not lift 139 kg in the second and third attempts. Last time India won 9 medals including five gold in weightlifting. In the evening, P Gururaja (61kg), Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (49kg) and S Bindiyarani Devi (55kg) will also be in the race for a medal.
