Maharashtra News: There is an alarm over the death of 24 people including a child in the government hospital of Nanded district of Maharashtra in 24 hours. Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar criticized the Eknath Shinde government, saying that this incident exposes the failure of the government. Sharad Pawar said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of the patients admitted to the hospital.

"Shows the failure of the government machinery."

Sharad Pawar wrote on Twitter, "The unfortunate incident of death of 24 people, including 12 newborns, in 24 hours in a government hospital in Nanded is really shocking. Just two months ago, in a single night in Kalwa Hospital of Thane Municipal Corporation. There was an unfortunate incident of death of 18 people, but due to not taking this incident seriously, a similar serious incident was repeated in the government hospital of Nanded. This shows the failure of the government system. At least the seriousness of these unfortunate incidents. In view of this, the State Government needs to ensure that concrete steps are taken, so that such incidents are not repeated and lives of innocent patients are saved."

"Out of 12 children, 6 boys - 6 girls"

Dean of Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital said the deceased were suffering from various ailments including snake bite, arsenic and phosphorus poisoning etc. He said that out of the 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, 12 adults died due to various diseases (mostly snake bites). The 24 also include 12 children, six boys and six girls. We faced some difficulties due to transfer of employees. He told that we are a tertiary care center. This is the only such center within a radius of 70 to 80 kilometers. That's why patients come to us from far away places. The number of patients has increased in a few days. This creates many problems including budget. The dean said that there is a Haffkine Institute. We had to buy medicines from them, but that also did not happen. We procured medicines locally and provided them to the patients.

"The condition of 70 patients was said to be 'critical'."

Former CM and senior Congress leader from Nanded Ashok Chavan said that apart from these deaths, the condition of 70 other patients referred from other private hospitals in the district is said to be 'critical'. He said that about 24 deaths have been reported in Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital and that is why I have come here and met the Dean. The situation is worrying and serious. The government should step in and provide immediate assistance. The condition of about 70 other people is critical. Chavan said that many transferred nurses have not been replaced.
