West Bengal is set to witness a significant political milestone this Saturday, 25 Baisakh, coinciding with the 165th birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore. At 11 AM, Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the BJP legislative party, will take the oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. The ceremony is designed to showcase Bengali culture. This marks the first time a BJP government will be formed in Bengal and the first time the Brigade Parade Ground will host an official swearing-in ceremony.
Distinguished Guests and Grand Scale
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be present at the Brigade Parade Ground for the oath-taking ceremony. Also, Chief Ministers from 21 BJP and NDA-governed states are expected to attend. BJP MPs, MLAs, and a massive number of party workers are also likely to be present. As per standard protocol for such high-profile events, stringent security measures have been implemented across the Brigade Ground and major parts of the state capital.
Security Infrastructure and Sector Management
For security reasons, the police have divided the Brigade Parade Ground into approximately 35 sectors. Several sectors will be combined to form blocks, each under the charge of an IPS rank officer. Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda will personally oversee the entire security operation. Approximately 40 VVIPs and essential guests will be accommodated in the initial blocks of the ground, where security will be at its highest level. Kolkata Police sources indicate that in addition to invited guests, lakhs of BJP supporters are expected to participate in the event.
Traffic Regulations and Surveillance
According to police sources, surveillance will be maintained from high-rise buildings surrounding the Brigade area on Saturday. Drones will be deployed to monitor the safety of VVIPs throughout the city. Traffic control measures will be in effect, with a ban on goods vehicles from 4 AM to 8 PM. However, emergency services including LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum, lubricants, oxygen, vegetables, medicines, fish, fruits, and milk transport are exempted. Parking won't be allowed on roads adjacent to Victoria Memorial Hall, and further restrictions on traffic movement may be imposed based on the situation.
