A major incident of violence has been reported from West Bengal following the election results, where Chandranath Rath, the Personal Assistant (PA) to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead, while the incident took place late Wednesday night in the Madhyamgram area of Kolkata. According to police sources, the attackers targeted Rath and fired four rounds, with three bullets hitting him directly in the head.
Details of the Fatal Attack
The attack occurred when Chandranath Rath was at a public place in Madhyamgram along with a few other people. Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants fired from extremely close range, leaving him no chance of survival. Out of the four rounds fired, three bullets struck his head, resulting in his immediate death on the spot. Local police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Close Aide to Suvendu Adhikari
Chandranath Rath was considered a very close confidant of Suvendu Adhikari and had been working with him for the past five years. He was often seen accompanying the BJP leader as a constant shadow. His sudden murder has sent shockwaves through the political circles of West Bengal, highlighting the volatile situation in the state post-elections.
Allegations Against TMC Workers
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pointed fingers at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding this murder. Allegations have been leveled against TMC workers for orchestrating the attack. While the police are currently examining all possible angles, the BJP maintains that this is a case of political vendetta following the recent polls.
The police have taken custody of the body for a post-mortem examination, while security has been tightened in the Madhyamgram area as authorities continue their search for the unidentified gunmen involved in this late-night shooting.
