T20 World Cup | England defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets in their first match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 played in Perth on Saturday on the basis of their career-best bowling performance of Sam Curran (5 for 10). After winning the toss, England bowled first and bowled Afghanistan for 112 runs in 19.4 overs and then turned the match in their favor for the loss of 5 wickets in 181 overs. For England, Liam Livingstone scored 29 not out, Alex Hales scored 19 and captain Jos Buttler scored 18 runs.

Earlier, Afghanistan's team, playing their first T20 International match in Australia, was reduced to 112 runs in front of Karan's havoc. Karan took five wickets for 10 runs in 3.4 overs. He became the first bowler to take 5 wickets for England in T20 International cricket. Afghanistan had scored 106 runs in 17 overs for the loss of five wickets, but thanks to four wickets from Karan in the 18th and 20th overs, the rest of the Afghanistan team was reduced to three runs.

Apart from Karan, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes took two wickets each while Chris Woakes got one wicket.
