Asia Cup 2023: Before the final of Asia Cup-2023, a big change has been seen in Team India. Washington Sundar has entered the team at the last moment. According to the report of Cricbuzz, all-rounder Washington Sundar has left for Colombo to join the team. Sundar has been called in place of Akshar Patel who is injured. India has to play the final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. Akshar Patel played the match against Bangladesh on Friday but could not impress with his game.

Sundar recently went on Ireland tour with Team India and played two matches of the three-match T20 series. However, he could not take a single wicket in both the matches. Sundar was injured in IPL-2023 due to which he had to stay out for a long time.

Uncertainty about injury

Akshar was swallowed in the match played against Bangladesh. The situation is not clear yet as to how serious his injury is, but there is doubt about his playing the final and hence Sundar has been called as his backup. Sundar is included in the Indian team participating in the Asian Games and was currently in Bengaluru. Against Bangladesh, Akshar scored 42 runs in 34 balls which included three fours and two sixes. He bowled nine overs in which he took one wicket for 47 runs. He was hit by the ball twice. While Akshar was batting, he was hit by a Sri Lankan fielder's ball. After this, the physio came and applied spray on his hand.

Now it remains to be seen whether Sundar gets a chance to play the final directly or not. He is a good off-spinner and also bats brilliantly. Sri Lanka has left-handed batsmen and India has no off-spinner for them. In such a situation, Sundar can be fed. However, this will happen only if Team India decides to go with three spinners in the final. If India decides to go with three fast bowlers then Sundar will have to remain out.
