Restoration of High Commissioners will be a new beginning

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed on Wednesday that the Prime Ministers of both the countries have agreed on the necessary steps to restore stability and trust in mutual relations. The first step will be the early restoration of High Commissioners in the capitals of both the countries. This step will reactivate the long-stalled diplomatic process.

Possibilities of cooperation in areas like trade, technology and energy

Describing the meeting as 'positive and constructive', the Foreign Secretary said that both the leaders have decided to resume discussions at the senior level in areas like trade, contact, and public relations. Apart from this, possibilities of cooperation were also explored on strategic issues such as clean energy, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), food security and supply chain of critical minerals.

Relations based on shared values

According to Foreign Secretary Misri, the meeting between PM Modi and PM Carney reaffirmed strong relations based on shared values ​​such as democracy, rule of law, mutual respect, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both countries acknowledged that a stable and reliable partnership is the need of the hour amid changing geopolitical equations on the world stage.

PM Modi also met other global leaders

During the G-7 summit, PM Modi also met the leaders of South Korea, Mexico, Italy, South Africa and Australia apart from Canada. He held talks for the first time with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Mexico's new President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo Obrador. Modi's visit to Canada took place after a decade, which in itself has become a symbol of an important turning point in the relations between the two countries.
