Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajiv Krishna has suspended ten SHOs across nine districts for showing negligence in handling public grievances. Detailed reports have been sought within three days.

A major wave of panic swept through the Uttar Pradesh police department when state Director General of Police, DGP Rajiv Krishna, took strict and decisive action against police officers for severe negligence in handling public grievances. The DGP immediately suspended a total of ten Station House Officers across nine different districts of the state. Following this major administrative action, police departments in the concerned districts have been shaken, and officers at police stations and outposts have been put on high alert regarding public hearing matters. The police officers and station incharges who faced this disciplinary action include the in-charge of Babu Banarasidas police station in Lucknow, along with SHOs of Lakhimpur Kheri, Unnao, Etah, Agra, Pratapgarh, Budaun, Bijnor, and Mathura districts. This stringent action taken by the DGP has created widespread discussion and is a major talking point across the entire state.

A detailed press release regarding this matter has also been officially issued by the Headquarters Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh. The released press release officially states that the Director General of Police, UP, recently reviewed the status of public grievance redressal. During this review meeting, strict and clear instructions were issued to repatriate and initiate departmental proceedings against ten SHOs across nine districts who showed gross negligence during public hearings. The press release particularly emphasized that public hearings must be kept at the highest priority by the police administration, while accordingly, instructions have been given that proper and effective action must be taken on a complainant's grievance right at the police station and outpost level itself so that the general public doesn't have to wander around for justice.

The press release further clarifies that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi-Adityanath has always made the effective and prompt redressal of public grievances the topmost priority of his government. The Chief Minister has consistently instructed officials to work with absolute sensitivity, transparency, and promptness. With the objective of ensuring the effective and cent percent compliance of these crucial instructions given by the Chief Minister, the Director General of Police held a high-level video conferencing session on today's date, 27 October 2026. Through this video conference, he reviewed the current status of public grievance redressal with all Zonal Additional Directors General of Police and Commissioners of Police, Range Inspectors General and Deputy Inspectors General of Police, and Senior Superintendents of Police and Superintendents of Police in charge of districts.

During this important meeting, the DGP gave clear instructions to all senior officials that time-bound resolution of public grievances must be given topmost priority under all circumstances. It must be ensured that no complainant is required to visit district offices or directly come to the police headquarters for the resolution of their petty complaints. In his address, the DGP also discussed at length how to further improve the process of hearing public grievances at police stations and outposts. In addition, thorough discussions were held on strengthening mutual departmental coordination in land disputes and other local types of disputes, as well as measures to maintain law and order under sensitive circumstances.

It was specifically underlined in the meeting that the time-bound and completely transparent disposal of public grievances is mandatory. For this purpose, every complaint received through the IGRS portal, formal public hearings, Chief Minister reference, PG portal, and all other available mediums must be heard with utmost priority. The DGP gave strict instructions that under no circumstances should anyone be refused registration of a complaint. If reluctance or negligence in registering a complaint is found at any level, similar strict disciplinary action will be taken against the concerned police personnel, while it's worth noting that just before this major action, a large administrative reshuffle had taken place in the Uttar Pradesh police department, under which 18 senior IPS officers were transferred, making it amply clear that the governance and administration have adopted a completely serious stance regarding law and order and public complaints.
