Uttar Pradesh Infrastructure Boost: Lucknow Kanpur Expressway And New Highways To Transform 8 Districts

Uttar Pradesh is set for a major infrastructure boost with the upcoming Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway and two new highway projects. These developments, costing thousands of crores, will significantly reduce travel time and boost the economy across eight districts including Kanpur, Barabanki, and Bahraich.

Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a rapid transformation in its infrastructure landscape as the state prepares to welcome a high-speed expressway and two significant highway projects, while following the success of major projects like the Ganga Expressway and Purvanchal Expressway, these new developments are poised to redefine connectivity and economic growth across several regions. The expansion of the expressway and highway network in Uttar Pradesh has already doubled the pace of development in the state, and the upcoming projects are expected to provide a double dose of progress for the residents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to soon inaugurate the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway and lay the foundation stone for two additional highway projects that will further accelerate the state's growth trajectory.

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: A Technical Marvel

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is a 63 kilometer long project that has been constructed with a massive investment of approximately 4700 crore rupees. One of the most significant features of this expressway is that it includes a 42 kilometer long greenfield section. The completion and opening of this expressway will provide permanent relief from the heavy traffic congestion and jams frequently witnessed on NH-27. Currently, the journey between Kanpur and Lucknow takes about two and a half to three hours, but with the commencement of this expressway, this travel time will be drastically reduced to just 30 to 45 minutes. Vehicles on this route will be able to travel at a high speed of 120 km per hour. Regarding the toll charges, car owners will have to pay 275 rupees for a one-way trip, while a return journey within 24 hours will cost a total of 415 rupees.

New Greenfield Highway and Four-Lane Upgrades

In addition to the expressway, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for two new highway projects that have already received the green signal and necessary funding from the Union Cabinet. The first of these is the Kanpur-Kabarai route, which will be a 112 kilometer long new greenfield highway. The construction of this highway is estimated to cost over 3000 crore rupees. This new route will originate from Kanpur and pass through the districts of Fatehpur and Hamirpur, promising to completely transform the landscape of these areas. The second major gift is for the Barabanki to Bahraich route. Currently, this is a two-lane highway, but it will now be upgraded into a magnificent four-lane highway at a cost of 7000 crore rupees. To facilitate this project, the process of land acquisition is moving swiftly, with 140 acres of land being acquired in Bahraich and 110 acres in Barabanki.

Economic Impact and the Greenfield Concept

These projects are expected to provide a massive boost to industries, trade, and real estate in approximately 8 districts, including Kanpur, Barabanki, Bahraich, Fatehpur, and Hamirpur. The term greenfield highway refers to a completely new route built where no road or residential area previously existed. These highways are designed with large-scale tree plantations on both sides to Notably reduce the pollution caused by vehicles. By creating these new corridors, the state aims to foster a cleaner environment while simultaneously building a strong infrastructure that supports long-term economic prosperity and employment opportunities for the local population.
